Cutting fleet miles with a real-time route optimizer
Problem
Northfield's dispatchers planned routes each morning using static software that couldn't react to cancellations, traffic, or same-day add-ons — leaving drivers with inefficient routes locked in by 8am.
Approach
We built a constraint-based optimization engine that re-plans affected routes within seconds of a schedule change, running as a background service that dispatchers can override manually when local knowledge beats the model.
Architecture
The optimizer runs as a standalone service exposing a simple API the existing dispatch UI calls into, so Northfield didn't need to replace their front-end system to get the benefit.
